Whiterock Conservancy is excited to be moving forward with repairs to the exterior of the Historic Roswell and Elizabeth Garst Farmhouse. The next step in this process is to ask for bids from interested contractors.

The Garst farmhouse is arguably the most important feature of the Roswell and Elizabeth Garst Farmstead Historic District, and the heart of Whiterock Conservancy. Apart from its iconic visual reminder of the Khrushchev visit, it contains many of the interpretive resources regarding Roswell Garst’s life, hybrid seed corn development and the 1959 Khrushchev visit, all available to visitors.

The project addresses structural issues that threaten the Garst farmhouse. Project components include securing professional assistance to ensure restoration is accurate and repairing or in some cases replacing the roof, gutters, siding and windows. Work will also include repairing the chimney, repairing and waterproofing the foundation, and restoring the outdoor patios and walkways.

Sealed bids for the Garst Farmhouse Repairs will be received by the Owner at the Whiterock Conservancy, Office and Visitor’s Center, 1436 Highway 141, Coon Rapids, IA 50058, until 2:00 PM on November 21, 2017 for the following improvements:

The Project includes, but is not limited to, removal of existing paints and coatings, repairs to existing wood windows and doors, repairs to existing wood siding, repainting wood siding, windows, doors, and masonry. The Work of the Project shall be Substantial Complete on or before August 20, 2018.

This building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Work shall conform to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.

Bids will be received for a single prime contract.

A Pre-Bid Conference will be held at 11:00 AM on November 8, 2017 at the Garst Farmhouse dining room, 1390 Highway 141, Coon Rapids, IA 50058. Attendance by General Contractors, Sub-Contractors and Suppliers is strongly encouraged, but is not mandatory.

Refer to other bidding requirements described in Division 01 Section “Instructions to Bidders”.

Each bid shall be submitted on the Bid Form provided with the Bidding Documents, and shall be accompanied by bid security as set forth in the Instructions to Bidders, in the amount of five (5) percent of the total bid.

Performance Bond Requirement: 100% of contract amount.

No bid may be withdrawn for a period of 30 calendar days after the date of opening.

To the extent permitted by law, the Owner reserves the right to waive minor irregularities and to reject any and all bids.
