Conrad Kramer
Executive Director

Conrad Kramer comes to us via the Mojave Desert of Southern California just north of the Mexican Border. There he served as executive director of the Anza-Borrego Foundation, a nonprofit that worked to conserve wildlife habitat and support the recreational and public education mission of the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. This park, at nearly 1,000 square miles, is the second largest state park in the nation.

In 1985 Conrad earned a BS Degree from Indiana University in Public Affairs concentrating in Environmental Policy and Public Administration.

Darwin Pierce
Farm Manager

Darwin is fifth generation to the Whiterock Valley. Darwin's life and work experiences anchor many of WRC's applied land management activities. He is most often in the field but you can call and leave a message for him at 712-684-2697



April Schultes
Accountant

April graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 2009 with a degree in accounting and began working with Whiterock that same year.

Ruth Cook
Housekeeping

Picture

Ruth has worked on the Garst Farm for over 50 years and remembers when Nikita Khrushchev visited the Garsts in 1959. Ruth is an invaluable asset keeping the farm house and overnight facilities in great condition.




Kaitlin
Guest Services Assistant Manager

Kaitlin volunteered at the MacKenzie Environmental Education Center in central Wisconsin for over 5 years. She grew up farming and caring for the land in central Iowa. She is currently pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice. You may contact Kaitlin with any questions at 712-684-2697 Ext. 112..


Chris Troendle
Land Manager

Chris was raised in Lansing, Iowa. He holds a Master's in International Development specializing in sustainable agriculture and food security from Clark University in Worcester, Mass. Chris served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Gambia from 2001 to 2003.

Matt Reiling
Land and Facility Maintenance Assistant Manager

Born and raised in Coon Rapids, Matt provides valuable knowledge and experience in the Conservancy's daily operations. Matt is a passionate outdoorsman with vast knowledge in small engines repair.




Mark McAtee
Land & Facility Maintenance Technician

Mark McAtee is originally from Jessup, Iowa. Mark now lives in Coon Rapids with his wife and children on the historic Garst Farm. He provides valuable knowledge and experience with farm and facility maintenance along with valuable animal husbandry skills. He is overseeing the ever growing bison herd that is found at the farm.




Gary Olsen
Part time Land & Facility Maintenance Technician

Gary Olsen is originally from Audubon, Iowa and where he still resides. Gary provides many years of knowledge in conservation practices, construction, and farm & facility maintenance. He is an avid outdoorsman and he is currently working on a beekeeping project at WRC. In his free time he is a volunteer at Habitat for Humanity.


 


Driving Directions to Whiterock Conservancy Headquarters


Arriving from Des Moines: Whiterock is about 70 miles from Des Moines; trip takes about 1 1/4 hours. From I-35/I-80 on the NW corner of Des Moines, exit onto Hwy 141 towards Perry. Drive through Perry, Bagley, and Bayard on Hwy 141. Whiterock Conservancy is 6 miles west of Bayard on Hwy 141.


Arriving from Omaha: Whiterock is about 100 miles from Omaha; trip takes about 2 hours. Take I-80 east to Hwy 71 Atlantic/Audubon exit. Go north on Hwy 71, through Audubon, to Hwy 141. Turn east (right) and drive through Dedham and Coon Rapids. Whiterock is located 1/2 mile east of the convenience store in Coon Rapids on the south side of Hwy 141.


Arriving from Ames: Whiterock is about 65 miles from Ames; trip takes about 1 1/4 hours. From I-35 in Ames, go west on Hwy 30. Turn south (left) onto Hwy 25 at Scranton. Turn west (right) on Hwy 141 at Bayard. Whiterock is 6 miles west of Bayard, on Hwy 141.
