Plein Air Painting Workshop With Mickey Carlson
October 20 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Join us for a day of fresh air, learning, and camaraderie as we explore the wonderful resources of the Whiterock Conservancy.
Mickey Carlson has long followed the time honored practice of painting outdoors, often called plein air painting. Painting onsite,
painting from life, is the very best way to learn and improve your art practice. Call 712-790-8221 to reserve your spot as space is limited.
Mickey (Michael Anne) Carlson, Ph.D., M.B.A., B.F.A., B.A.
Mickey Carlson loves to draw and paint, with charcoal, pencils, pastels and oils. More than forty years of art practice has enhanced her sense of gratitude for the wonders of nature, and encouraged her to see the world in a meditative, contemplative fashion. Her early career as a graphic designer included studies with Milton Glaser at SVA New York, and other noted illustrators and designers. These mentors provided a strong foundation for her developing understanding of composition, color studies, and imaginative problem-solving.
Carlson served as Creative Director for her own graphics company for fifteen years. Carlson then completed an M.B.A. at Iowa State University and detoured into the corporate world. She continued to draw and paint, taking classes at the Des Moines Art Center and from noted portrait artist Mary Muller. Following retirement in 2013 she intensified her studies, participating in workshops, and showing her work locally. Most recently she has participated in the intensive workshops provided by the International Portrait Society. Several of her works are in private collections, on display in Des Moines, Boston, Chicago and New York. Her whimsical illustrations are published in “Everyday Virtues” by noted author and storyteller James Autry.
