Enjoy an old fashioned fishing derby on Monday, May 30!

Bring the whole family to enjoy an afternoon of fishing fun at the Second Annual Memorial Day Fishing Derby at the Garst Home Farm, 1390 Highway 141, Coon Rapids. Bring a fishing pole to try your hand at catching bluegill, bass, catfish, crappie and walleye. Each participant will receive a dozen worms.  Prizes will be awarded to anglers throughout the event. For those who may not know how to fish, experts will be on hand to guide you as your drop in your line.  Register at 3:30 when you arrive and then find a mowed/rocked area around the pond to start fishing in the Derby from 4 until 6:30. Anglers of all ages are welcome, and those over 16 years old do need a fishing license which can be purchased in advance at Hardware Hank in Coon Rapids. There is no registration cost, drinking water will be provided and you can even cook what you catch for a free dinner.

This long standing community fishing hole is fully revitalized, restocked and ready for you. The Home Farm ponds project to restore and improve these ponds as a local resource started in 2011, as a partnership developed between Whiterock Conservancy and Timothy O. Lee, grandson of Roswell and Elizabeth Garst. He remembers the wonderful fishing the ponds provided as a child and wanted to restore this resource for the local community.

We look forward to see you at the Fishing Derby!
